A Guide to the Vintage Grundig Radio for Sale

After the news blackouts of World War II, Max Grundig recognized the need for radios in Germany. He first sold a Grundig radio kit and then established a manufacturing company. If you are a collector, you can find a varied selection of reasonably priced vintage Grundig radios for sale on eBay.

The Heinzelmann, a Grundig radio if you collect vintage radios

In 1946, Hans Eckstein created a tube radio kit that was sold in Max Grundig’s store in Germany. The kit, designed to be assembled by the buyer, paved the way for a manufacturing company in the 1950s. The radio kit, sold until 1948, contained a wooden case and broadcast long and short waves. It was sold in a cardboard box with a blueprint and most of the parts. The tube was not included because of wartime restrictions.

Other classic radios for sale on eBay

The Grundig factory in Germany produced the Grundig 4095 in 1956 and 1957. It also went by alternative names: Grundig Portugal, Grundig USA, and Lextronix. Housed in a large wooden case, the Grundig Majestic 4095 was a large table radio. It came with two side speakers and two front speakers, controls for volume and tone, a dial light, and an AM antenna rotator. The 4095 and other models of the Majestic, including the 4085, 3262U, 1088, 2065U, 7000, and SO190U, can be found on eBay in original or restored condition. You can also buy parts or radios for restoration.

What kinds of radios did Grundig make in the 1960s?

In the 1960s, Grundig introduced a modular system with separate components that included a radio, stereo amplifiers, record player, tape recorder, separate speakers, and 3D audio. Fans could build their own Hi-Fi systems and include them in their living room designs. By the late 1960s, the company had created radio alarm clocks with digital displays and car radios with automatic station search.

The Grundig Boy and other Grundig radios for antique lovers

Around 1950, the company produced the first portable cabinet radio; a radio inside a case. Called by the generic name 186 B/GW, the radio quickly became a seller. A year later, it was known as the Grundig Boy. Grundig was also first to mass produce VHF receivers, featuring push-button operations instead of dials and knobs. The receivers also had long-range VHF reception and dynamic side speakers that created 3-D sound. One good seller in this category, made in 1954 and 1955, was the 5050W/3, a device with five speakers and 11 AM/FM circuits that could receive VHF and long/short wave frequencies.
