  • Earthenware – Found in red, gray, and orange, this clay is easy to work with, and it can be fired at a low temperature. This clay is transported by water allowing it to pick up minerals before it settles in the bottom of a river where it is collected.
  • Stoneware – This gray clay is often used to make bowls, and it can be fired at either a medium or high temperature in home kilns. It can vary in color from light gray to chocolate brown.
  • Ball clay – This gray clay is usually combined with earthenware of stoneware to add plasticity to pieces being made on pottery wheels.
