Sabian is a Canadian cymbal manufacturer, and it is also one of the largest companies that produces this type of percussion instrument. One of the instruments that it produces is the China cymbal. It is a metal or brass plate that creates a sound from being struck by a drumstick or mallet

A China cymbal is an instrument that belongs to the percussion family. It is designed to create a slightly different pitch when compared to a standard crash or ride cymbal. It falls under the effects range of cymbals along with others like splashes, vented cymbals, and stacks. The name is derived from its similarity to the sound produced when you strike a Chinese gong.

A China cymbal is typically composed of four main copper-based alloys, including bell bronze, malleable bronze, brass, and nickel silver. The darker the cymbal, the dryer the tone that results when the China cymbal is stricken. A dry tone results in a short sustain, which is relatively common among most Sabian China cymbals since they are intended as a quick accent in a percussive sequence.

Different-sized Sabian cymbals produce different noises as well as pitches. When a cymbal is struck, the outer rim vibrates while the inner plate remains motionless. The vibrations produce the resulting crashing sound. A thinner cymbal creates the noise faster, which makes the crash-produced sound fuller. A heavier cymbal will make a higher-pitched sound and at an increased volume.

This type of cymbal is produced to make a sound unlike a traditional China model. It is drilled with holes in an axle from the center point in order to create more volume from the crash. It also has a raised pitch and can sustain a longer crash due to the added holes. These are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from 8 inches to 21 inches.

There are 10 different types of Sabian cymbals composed of different materials for the purpose of producing differing tones. The Sabian models include one brass model, the SBR, also known as "The Best Brass." The bronze models include: the "bright" B8X, the "focused Cut" B8Pro, the "brilliant" XSR, the "vintage bright" AA, the "modern bright" AAX, the "vintage dark" HH, the "modern dark" HHX, the "powerful" Paragon, and the "masterpiece" Artisan.
